Indian Head Massage Oils PDF Print E-mail
Written by Laurie English

Besides frequent champi or head massages, what do the men and women of India use on their hair? Oils. Nutritious oils that impart minerals and aromatic essences to the scalp and hair. When I was India, you could always tell who had done their morning grooming.

You'd see sleeked, oiled hair. Hair is regularly oiled in India on a weekly if not daily basis.

Oils are used depending on the season, the Ayurvedic constitution (vata, pitta, kapha) and the intended result. Some typical oils used on the hair during Indian head massage are:

Sesame

Coconut

Mustard

Almond

Olive

In addition, there are many more oils native to India that are now finding their way abroad. In particular, I recomment Amla (gooseberry) oil for those interested in hair growth.

To find out more about hair oils, experiment with yourself and your family and friends. I read somewhere that oil means love.

Love yourself today and annoint your crown with some love from Mother Nature herself.
